Local Students Receive Marquette West Rotary Academic Achievement Awards

Marquette, MI  –  6/26/2019  –  The Marquette West Rotary met today to recognize the academic achievements of local students. The recipients and their families gathered at The Landmark Inn to have lunch and receive awards for Foreign Language and overall Academic Achievement.

Rotarian Jim Lajoie helped coordinate the scholarship program that has been able to give the recipients of the award a scholarship of $1,000. Kira Olson won the Spanish foreign language award. She has spent time in Central American to learn, and she plans on going to Michigan Tech in the fall to study construction management. Eva Hautamaki won the French foreign language award. She has spent three years studying French in high school and also plans on attending Michigan Tech. The Rotary Academic Achievement award went to Daniel Jeffries. Daniel wants to study accounting and attend Michigan Tech as well.

Amanda Filizetti conducted her last meeting as the President of the Marquette West Rotary. Stepping in to take her place will be Lucy Grove. The club will be keying up for HarborFest, which will be taking place August 23rd and 24th. Enjoy music from Friday night headliner Bumpus, and Saturday night headliner The Insiders. The HarborFest will also have activities such as classic car and motorcycle show, UP Luge Club demos, and more!
